We are packed and ready for the trip to San Pedro Sula - a four hour trip. Adios for now! Carol
We arrived into San Pedro Sula on time - through rainy weather and passing several accidents. The flight was about an hour late in taking off.
We arrived into Miami on time and onto Columbus - alittle early! - at 11:30 PM.

Thursday the men finished up the water filters - a bit of slow time with transportation issues. The women cleaned out the storage area and has it ready for the next group to use. When walked to the mall later from the hotel we walked into the midst of a student protest by the Presidential House, which we skirted around with the aid of a taxi. Honduran life is interesting and we often encounter surprises!

We had another full day - the last full day for many in our group since they are leaving tomorrow morning. We had another medical clinic at "New Jerusalem" where we saw another 200 or so patients. Some were back from Monday, when we were there, to get needed medicines we had run out of on Monday. My youngest patient was 3 days old and my oldest patient, I think, was 95. Dr. Dan worked the pharmacy with his translator Josue. Dental saw another 100 patients or so (Dr. Jeff worked in construction today). Construction put finishing touches on the houses, roofs and freshly poured cement floors. The new owners of the homes are beaming with joy and thankfulness to God and all of the support we and YOU have given. Benevolence handed out final food bags, clothes and Bibles. VBS workers spent time with the children and played games with them. 7 water filters were built and Thursday the rest are to be put together. Josh had the Hondurans with him totally complete #7 water filter - and they did an excellent job.

We are now on our FIFTH bus - the engines have a real workout on these mountains!!!

A pizza meal together at the hotel this PM capped off the day. Some went to play soccer afterwards, others packing to be ready for tomorrow's trip back to the USA.

Today was a full day. The THIRD bus broke down on us today. We ended up riding to the sites inside of a truck with our supplies, a very bumpy hot ride. Construction has pretty much completed most of the two houses now - need to work on windows and concrete floors yet. Josh has the water filters ready to assemble with washed sand and gravel. VBS saw another 150 or so - at the "New Jerusalem" church building and taught Daniel in the Lion's Den. Benevolence bagged up another 203 bags and delivered part of them - more to be delivered later. The medical team saw about 200 patients and dental saw 80 or so patients.

Monday - July 14, 2008

Monday - Today the medical team went to the "New Jerusalem" area. There we had a mobile clinic - medical and dental. Medical saw 223 patients. Pav and Casey worked in the pharmacy once again and filled over 700+ prescriptions!!! Dental saw 60 patients - several with much more detailed work and needs than just pulling teeth. VBS worked in another area and 203 food bags were handed out there. Construction has the roof nearly finished on one house, the floors are leveled - ready for the concrete to be poured, and some windows and doors are completed. Josh is busy with the water filters and sand washing. We have a new brother in Christ!!! Marvin (a Honduran who has worked with us as interpreter and driver for several years) was baptized into Christ today!!! Praise God!!!
The hotel is a noisy place the past couple of days. The Barbados tennis team arrived a few days ago and yesterday the Puerto Rico, Bermuda and other tennis teams arrived. They are in Davis Cup tournaments at a nearby country club. And this PM we arrived back at the hotel finding a Honduran Presidential candidate having a rally in the lobby with press and all. As I write, several tennis players are in the internet area here, trying to find a quiet place to talk on their cell phones.
Robin is doing some daily write ups also, and there is a link on the right side of this page that you can use to access the site for these. Your comments are welcome!!!

Sunday we went to "New Jerusalem" church - a building we built a view years ago that they have since added onto - including a building for children's classes. There Rilla, Ginger and a lot of helpers taught the story of Noah and the Ark. The children LOVED it! They enjoyed the story, animal "puppets" that they received and the activities of coloring, bracelet making and singing. (Robin in photo is making sure Jeff is listening to the story).
Then we had worship service with our Honduran brothers and sisters. After a short time at the mall we went to the children's home, Casa de Esperanza - in Santa Ana. (I am adding their website as a link on the blog). They have 11 children there - to get 2 more this week.
In the evening, after a devo, some of us went to Santa Lucia - another small village, about 30 minutes outside of Tegucigalpa - where we had a sing fest with the TORCH group inside of an old 1700's cathedral... really neat and uplifting! Carol

Today we went to the storage - clinic area and had our AM devo. Then we set up the assembly line for the bags of food to be put together. Lauren and Diane were in charge of making the peanut butter sandwiches. Construction has A LOT done on the house by the end of the day, several walls up and about ready to work on roofs, Monday. Dental saw 86 patients today with many tooth extractions done. Medical saw 165 patients. VBS was conducted in Marvins house - after he cleared out his living area - and they had about 200 children there. Benevolence handed out 205 bags of food and clothes.

Today we went to the storage area and worked on bagging up beans and rice. Josh, Galen and Greg are off to Valley Bonita to check out the water filters that were built last January. The tired second half of the group jumped in to help in the afternoon, and bagging the beans and rice were completed. Amy worked to organize the storage area. Dr. Dan and Dr. Jeff worked on their supplies - getting ready for tomorrow's planned medical excursion in a area near Tegucigalpa. The construction crew began on the two sites digging post holes for the two houses that are planned for our week here. This PM we plan to have a pizza meal at the hotel with our Honduran brothers and sisters.

Today we went to the storage area where we will be bagging food and clothes. We checked out the area and arranged boxes. This afternoon we went to the sites where the two houses will be built made sure wood and supplies are ready. The photo shows Andrew helping Gary count the wood delivered. Ginger and Rilla worked on VBS materials for the upcoming days.
The second half of our group are not here yet. They have had flight delays from Miami. Hopefully they will arrive soon into San Pedro Sula. They will have the long ride then to Tegucigalpa - a very long day for them!
Hasta manana!!!

Hola Family and Friends,

We are in Honduras (with all of our bags!!!) YEA!! We landed in San Pedro Sula and rode in vans for about 5 hours - stopping along the way to eat at a Honduran restaurant where it is known for famous soccer players coming. The only famous soccer player we saw was Andrew - but we enjoyed our meal. Beautiful weather this AM. More later!!!
